Stocking up on your travel gear and gadgets can really add up, especially when buying a new device you’ll also need to get cords and chargers, applications and extra software, carrying cases and holders, insurance, etc. It’s a wonder we buy them in the first place, but we all know the right travel gadget can make a trip just that much more enjoyable.
Saving money when it comes to travel gadgets? That’s where Deal Fun comes it play. It’s a great new site where you can save big and have fun doing it.
How Does it Work?
There are lots of bidding/deal sites out there, and deal fun is slightly unique. Here’s how it works:
- You signup for an account. Obvious, but necessary to point out.
- You buy “bid credits.” Each credit is 60 cents and that’s used to place bids. I should note that right now they’re offering FREE bid credits during launch. Pretty sweel.
- You find cool travel stuff to bid on. It’s all new products, not hand-me-down type stuff. Each item has a ticket counting down, so you may or may not have a few minutes to research if it’s what you want.
- You bid on it. Each bid adds 15 seconds to the clock, to make room for last minute bids.
- You win and save! Tada!
Deal Fun has a great promise policy in that if you decide not to use your bids, you can ask for a refund. Also, if you’re not the betting kind, many products have a “buy it now” price, which makes it simple and easy for you to save without having to check in on bids and timings.
How much savings can you get?
Well, the nature of a site like this is that prices are variable depending on who’s bidding, the amount of inventory, etc. I’m looking late on a Monday evening as I type and here’s what’s available:
- Just over $40 for an iPad. Yes please!
- Just under $11 for an iPhone with 16GB member – and unlocked, so you can buy an in-country SIM card and be on your way.
- Less than a dollar for top quality earphones. (Actually mine just broke and I bought a new pair for $9, which suck. I’m sure these are better!)
- A Nikon Coolpix S3100 Digital Camera for less than $2. I am a Canon diehard, but my mom has always had a coolpix camera.
- A Targus Mobile Security Lock for your apple device with no bids. With just a few minutes to go, there are no bidders, meaning you can swoop in there and get it for a steal.
The list goes on and on. I highly recommend having a list in mind of what you NEED, otherwise you’ll send up on a shopping spree that might end up denting your travel budget!
